Aluminum-free Revolution of Aseptic Packaging: SIG and Tetra Pak Compete for Green Packaging Technology

The aluminum-free upgrading competition of paper-based aseptic packaging has intensified in 2026, with SIG Combibloc and Tetra Pak leading two mainstream green technical routes, while supporting SIG caps and Tetra DreamCap play a key role in environmental optimization.

Traditional beverage cartons contain aluminum foil to achieve light and oxygen barrier, but bring low recycling efficiency and high carbon emissions. SIG has realized mass production of aluminum-free green core packaging, equipped with optimized eco-friendly SIG closure caps, and has been widely used in dairy products.

Tetra Pak invests 60 million euros to build a pilot factory, developing advanced paper-based barrier technology to replace traditional aluminum foil layers. Matched with the low-carbon DreamCap series, it greatly improves the recyclability of the whole package.

Industry data shows that the recycling rate of Chinese paper-based composite packaging has reached 41.6% in 2025. From 2026 to 2027, aluminum-free aseptic packaging and low-carbon integrated caps will be fully popularized, becoming the standard configuration of high-quality milk and beverage packaging worldwide.
